Pendleton, Oregon

Okay, bad reporter, didn't check her facts.  Robert remembered the World's Fair trip as 1964.  We were kindly corrected to 1962.  Thanks!  Corrections below.

On the way to Washington Robert started talking about the trip his family and his brother's family took to the World's Fair in 1964  1962.  I could tell by his voice and his expression that the trip was a wonderful one with tremendously sweet memories.

He remembers the trip really fondly and driving along through the same region really brought back good memories.  He spoke about the camping and the beautiful trees.  He shared a couple of stories I thought I would share.

They, meaning Robert, Susan, and David, were told they could buy one souvenir.  Robert bought a ceramic horse.  At one point, I guess he dropped it and it broke.  He said it broke his heart.  But we still have the horse in my hope chest.  It just has a glued on broken foot or two.

Then he told this story when we were getting close to Pendleton, Oregon.  They make wool shirts in Pendleton.  There is a factory there and a factory store. The family had stopped to look at the store.  Robert was 13 11 years old.  Susan, his older sister, told him that the shirts were really popular.  A Pendleton shirt was high on the list of things that he said he would have liked to have in his life.  But he said they were quite expensive so the shirt didn't get bought.

We stopped in Pendleton at the Factory Story on Wednesday.  It was touching to me to be there as part of the continuing story of the World's Fair trip of 1964 1962 and it's closure 47  49 years later.  Now we can say, "Here is the rest of the story."
